5 Things I Learned In 5 Weeks At GSPR

My name is Brielle Janavs. I grew up in Newport Beach, California! I am currently a junior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. This summer, I interned here at GSPR!

Here are 5 Things I Learned In 5 Weeks At GSPR:

  1. Press scans!

Press scans are very important to do each morning, so we can share all the articles and stories our clients have been mentioned in, first thing. It’s also important to record and track these placements.

  2. Keep up with changes.

It could be changes in trends or even changes in publications that editors work for! I have noticed that editors are constantly changing positions and publications and it’s crucial to keep track! Keeping up with the holidays, editorial calendars, and which celebrity is having a baby is super important for staying relevant.

  3. Make your pitch stand out and build relationships.

I have noticed that editors will repeatedly cover our clients’ products, because they enjoy the brands we represent and their values, reading our pitches, and our communication style. Editors receive many pitches, so if you want your pitches to make an impact, you need to make them more personal and start building these relationships.

  4. Utilize your resources.

I was not aware of the websites, programs, and platforms often used by PR professionals, starting as an intern here at GSPR! They each offer helpful information for brands, and PR pros.

  5. It’s not work if you enjoy it.

I always had an interest in PR and marketing but had never truly experienced working in the field. I have taken many courses in the subject, but the experience I have gotten so far at GSPR has been beyond anything I could learn in a classroom. Not only did I learn the above, but I have an abundance of tools and knowledge to use for the future.
